Wall-E : Droid of the Day – 03/02/2020

Wall-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter: Earth-Class) is a trash compactor robot left on Earth to clean it up after the fictional company Buy-N-Large pretty much leaves the planet uninhabitable.

This figure was part of a 6 static figurine set produced for the Disney Store when the movie was released in 2008. The other robots in the set are E.V.E., M.O., Light Bot, Vacuum Bot, and Steward Bot

Echo Echo : Droid of the Day – 03/01/2020

Echo Echo is the Omnitrix’s DNA sample of a Sonorosian from the planet Sonorosia. Looks like a robot to me though.

This figure is one of the many that came out during the Alien Force series made by Bandai

This figure is pretty old so Ebay is where to go.

Gumball Machine Bots : Droid of the Day – 02/29/2020

I came across a set of RETROBOTS gumball machine robots that had pretty cool looking heads. They didn’t come with names but I took a minute and gave them all some names. Optix, Grilz, Diskz, Shadez, Shox, Stitchez, Toxic, and Wavez

The are marketed by a company called A&A on Amazon Marketplace

I got these from Amazon.

Bucket (R1-J5) : Droid of the Day – 02/28/2020

“A battered, decrepit old droid addled by outdated, glitching programming, Bucket has been Jarek Yeager’s loyal astromech for years. Despite the droid’s eccentric behavior, Bucket is a capable mechanic.” – Databank entry

Bucket shows how cool an astromech droid would look without it’s fancy shell.

This figure came in a 2 Pack with Jarek Yeager as part of the Star Wars Resistance line made by Hasbro in 2019.

Still available from Amazon and probably easily obtainable from stores like ROSS or 5Below.

Sergent Tabbs : Droid of the Day – 02/25/2020

Cats in Space… I’m not sure if this is a cyborg cat but I like to think it should be.

Sergent Tabbs was part of the Robolx Series 9 single carded figures made by Jazwares in 2020.

Check the Archive for more figures:

So far Sgt Tabbs only shows up in the Amazon Marketplace. I found it at retail in a Target.

Robot Chicken : Droid of the Day – 02/24/2020

Robot Chicken is the mascot from the show Robot Chicken.

This figure is from a two-pack that includes a 6″ figure of The Mad Scientist and this roughly 3.5″ figure of the Robot Chicken. The set was part of a very small 1:12 scale line made by Jazwares back in about 2010ish. I picked the set up at a Toys R Us.

Check the Archive for more figures:

This set occasionally shows up on Ebay so keep an eye out for that one. There is also a similar figure made by Kid Robot which will be in a later DotD. I also have the Mad Scientist in my box of stuff to sell.

Captain Action : Comic Adventure Heroes by Zica Toys

Character summary :

Caption Action was created back in 1966 as a competitor to GI Joe for the Ideal Toy company. He is basically a character that has access to multiple super heroes outfits and their characteristics when he wears them.

This figure is the Headliner of the Comic Adventure Heroes line made by Zica as part of a Kickstarter campaign. Production took a few years and these were all released in 2020. They are available for sale at BBTS and on Zica’s webstore.

Sculpt:

Captain Action’s sculpt is a fairly generic muscular human wearing a body suit.

Paint:

Paint is all pretty crisp and well done.

Accessories:

  • Extra head sculpt (that looks like The Office’s Michael Scott to me)
  • Removable hat that fits really well
  • Ray gun pistol and holster that attaches to belt
  • Ray gun rifle
  • Lightning short sword and holster that attaches to belt
  • 4 sets of extra hands (Trigger finger, Fists, Magic, Regular grip)
118_Action_Figure_Archive_Reviews_Checklist_Guide_Kickstarter_ZICA_Captain_Action

Articulation:

  • Barbel neck
  • Double swivel pin shoulders
  • Double swivel pin elbows
  • Swivel pin wrists
  • T-ball hips that connect to the torso and sits in the crotch
  • Double swivel double pin knees
  • Swivel “rocker” ankles
118_Action_Figure_Archive_Reviews_Checklist_Guide_Kickstarter_ZICA_Captain_Action

Size & Scale :

All of the figures in the Comic Adventure Heroes line are a little on the smaller side of modern 1:18 figures.

118_Action_Figure_Archive_Reviews_Checklist_Guide_Kickstarter_ZICA_Captain_Action
Size & Scale compared to a Boss Fight Studio Vitruvian HACKS blank figure

The heads do fit pretty well on other figures like Marauders and Boss Fight Studio if you need a body for the extra head.

Final thoughts:

I am a huge advocate for supporting independent toy manufacturers. This campaign shows how difficult it can be to make these. Props to Zica Toys for following through and delivering. I hope that they continue to make toys into the future. As for the figure itself, I really enjoyed it even though the source material is way before my time. It is a little shorter that I was expecting because they had made a big deal about the figures being made too small at one pint during manufacturing and had to get everything re-tooled.
